I need two useful, yet inexpensive, gift ideas (one for Christmas, the other for the housewarming -- they never should have had them so close together)

You can kill 2 birds with one stone if you get some Christmas decorations like candles with decorative candle rings, or a wreath, or ornaments.

Go to the dollar store and get a few cute kitchen things and put them in a gift bag or basket. Here's some ideas: kitchen towels, pot holders, candles, measuring spoons and measuring cups in some nice mixing bowls, set of mugs with some coffee or hot chocolate with them, a muffin tin with baking cups and a cake mix, a whisk, etc.

How about a nice Christmas decoration and a gift card to Home Depot or some place that she can buy something for the new house?

Housewarming:1. Picture frame large enough to hang or display (not desk size) that compliments the home.2. A set of candles for the dinner table or general decoration.3. A wall clock for the hallway or stairwell.4. Gag gifts: 4-pack of toilet paper and a HUGE remote control for the TV/DVD/VCR.Christmas:1. Same as above (except #4).2. Desktop stuff, like a desk clock with calendar or new day-planner.3. Book(s) by favourite author(s) or fun, yet interesting: Guiness Book of World Records or the like.4. Movies/cartoons from their past on DVD (all genres).5. A donation to their favourite charity in their name.Merry Christmas!

As a house warming gifts, sheets and pillow case are classics, you can never have too many sets, even if they stay stored unopened for years, or brought out for special overnight guests.Personal gifts as Christmas pressies, his and her towels. Buy towels that are the same style, yet different, perhaps not fort he bathroom, but for the beach, river or public swimming pool.
