How about a puppy--maybe she could focus on it's welfare. instead of everything SHE wants and she might have less time to shop for herself. Or you could send money to starving children in her name. Even if she doesn't love it, the children certainly will.

what about a day being pampered,in a health pool, shecould have a sauna, have a massage, have some lunch, then finish the day with going on the sunbed, there are loads more things to do,I'm a57yr old mother in law, and that would be a lovely present, and who knows she might keep it up, and go every week/month.and it does not cost a great deal of money. around £35 a day.

Sansiveria (sp) is the name of a lovely plant , commonly known as Mother-in-law's tongue. Perhaps she would appreciate it and the joke !!

You know folks not everyone hates their mother-in-law I quite like mine actually although I don't see her very often. I thought the photo blanket sounded like a lovely idea, we've had a family portrait taken and framed to give to my mother-in-law this year as she didn't have one with the 4 of us in it together.

Hey, mother in law has everything as well! She's a coffee drinker, so for Christmas I bought a beach bag (made of straw) and I filled it up with coffee and tea stuff. This is what I put into it that I purchased: 4 cups, 1 coffee grinder, 1 mickey of Baileys, 1 box of biscotti, 1 box of various tea bags, 1 small container of honey, 1 small container of coffee whitener. Then I added stuff that I had to sorta make myself. I put three small containers with different types of coffee beans. I used my scrapbooking stuff to write the kind on the container (I had french vanilla, peacan dream and chocolate fantasy, all purchased from the bulk barn), I added some chocolate dipped spoons, using them to stir your coffee gives a taste of mocha to your coffee! It's supper yummy! Then I gave her a bit of extra goodies, some chocolate bars, some breath mints (to get rid of coffee breath) and some home made chocolate licorice! (It sounds weird, but it is soooo good!)In case your interested, here's how to make the chocolate dip spoons: melt brown chocolate, then dip plastic spoons into it, lay them on a piece of wax paper, let them dry, repeat. When both layers are dry, melt, white, red and green chocolate,(you don't need much) in seperate bowls, and using a fork, drizzle over the brown chocolate. The above directions can be used for the licorice too! I suggest that you cut the licorice in two, then dip the cut end half way into the brown chocolate. Followed by the drizzle.Adding a bit of ParoWax will give your chocolate a shinny look. But just a little bit! Otherwise, it'll taste like wax!The reason I say brown is because it can be milk, or dark or whatever kind, as long as it's brown. Enjoy!

I think it's lovely your trying to find the perfect gift. I agree it's hard to buy for someone who has everything. What I would do since she lives in New York there are so many things to do in the city. You can get a tickets for a Broadway play, something at the arts. Brunch at the Plaza is app 75.00 per person last time I went. Also most New York's never see the sights. You can even get her tickets for a tour and go as a family. Have a wonderfull holiday.
