For example: Christmas I work extra hours to make extra money to give gifts to our family, he thinks we should keep the money for our bills and not purchase gifts. It's been a famly tradition to give gifts, his family too, except he just doesnt make any effort, every year. I want to buy a gift for his birthday but he never buys me a gift for my birthday or plans anything. Valentine's day comes and goes. Christmas comes and goes (I feel embarrassed to show at family gatherings and have no gifts because I listen to my husband) This year I purchased gifts and he sat outside the store with his mp3 player in his ears. I don't know what to do? Follow his lead and give up on this??

Nope....as long as you can make the bills take your extra and get those gifts.....and make sure you sign from yourself only on the card.Don't let him sign the card either as he had nothing to do with the gifts.Don't buy for him. If he doesn't want to exchange gifts, fine, but he shouldn't expect to receive if he never gives.....Good Luck.

People have different ways of feeling loved, and they project those things onto others. The reason you love to give gifts is because receiving makes you feel loved. My guess is that your husband gets little satisfaction from receiving a gift, and so does not understand the importance of giving them. Sit your husband down and talk to him about what it is that truly makes him feel loved - you probably know what it is. And then explain that a lot of people get that feeling from giving and getting gifts. Maybe that will help. Then strike a compromise that will allow for some nominal gift giving - keep it small. And have a great Christmas!

So, where was the COMMUNICATION on how to celebrate this season BEFORE you got married? Had you talked about it and maybe both made compromises in the beginning or decided you couldn't deal with this you wouldn't be where you are now.
