My baby is not born yet but I looked on target.com and literally read every review for every monitor before deciding on a graco one.

I have the fisher price monitor which was recommended by a lady in the store who had bought the expensive one with the screen and took it back and her sister recommended the fisher price one because it's so much clearer. It has two monitors besides the base (one plugs into the wall and doesn't use batteries and the other one uses batteries). I turn it down so I can hear any cries but I don't hear every little sound my daughter makes. Good luck!

Hi, I have a video monitor which has never failed me yet.http://www.babysaver.com.au/product.asp?fieldname3=235I know it is more expensive, but I have a son who has obstructive sleep apnea, and stops breathing of a night. Other than that you could always buy a monitor that doesn't use batteries, it plugs into the wall instead.
