|
|
My daughter (from a first marriage) and her boyfriend live together three years now. My current mother-in-law asked me what her boyfriend's name was and I told her. Then five minutes later she asks me if she can ask a really personal question while looking around at each of her kids (my husband's siblings). I say what? She says when my daughter introduces **** how does she introduce him? Then my husband showed her a fake lottery ticket given as a job promotion gag gift to him by my family with a cake and gifts to congratulate him. Then he shows her thinking she will laugh too. She says to my hubby well honey I think you could sue someone for pulling that joke on you--I wish I could sue someone. Then a few days later she was listening to my husband talk about his job managing 150 people and says that is too much stress. Then she turns to me and asks me to define what it is I do all day. This is something she just recently started doing. Why is she doing this all of a sudden? At 74 she still mamages a small business so she is not crazy.she still managesbecause accidentally deleted the question when i got up to do the dishes.I was thinking it could be that I told one of his family members they were to become beneficiary of our money/home/etc. if anything happens to all three of us. If they get rid of two of us that leaves them heir to my hubby's money. They raided their own dad's things (he separated from his mom) before he was even buried in the ground. My hubby didn't get raid his home and he also didn't get any momentos.

I don't think they were insults. She just sounds really unhappy and ready for retirement.

they are insults but she may be getting to an age where she doesnt realize she is saying hurtful things. Talking this way to family is the 1st stage, both of my grandmas got like this, one more than the other. Its like alll of a sudden they just become hateful. She is unhappy and is taking it out on you & your family.

sometimes when people get old they get cranky... give her a good strong drink and see if it helps... if not just start ignoring her, if shes doing it on purpose or not it will help

I think the first situation was not an insult. It really is a question some people struggle with. When people live together for years... what are they called? They're not married. They're obviously more than girlfriend/boyfriend. So really, what do you call them? Then, if she is 74 years old, she may manage a business well, but that doesn't mean she copes with stress well. She may be trying to hurt your feelings by asking what you do all day, but she may genuinely be interested. Why don't you ask her, and not us?

I'd say the second one maybe and the last one for sure. Who know why.....sometimes as people age they get mean.. My ex's grandmother has become this way. She's otherwise normal...but has developed a mean streak.

Look she is seventy four. From the old school where people did not live together before marrying, that is why she was unsure how to handle the live in lovers name. She obviously does not totally approve of you anyway. Nothing can be done about that, Just accept it. It is all the price you pay for second marriages.

There could be many reasons for this, just unhappy, doesn't realize she is coming across like that etc. However it could be a real medical problem, as a friend of mines mother started to act like that come to find out she had melanoma and it had started to spread to her brain. So before you criticize her too much see if other actions of hers change and if her responses to things get more off the wall. If they do have her see a Dr as soon as possible. She is also at the age where she could be getting hardening of the arteries

She could be experiencing hardening of the arteries.. she could have a brain tumor.. she could be curious .. she could suddenly have realized it is almost time for her to leave the planet.. who knows? As people get toward the very last days.. often they can be afraid.and may start asking or doing strange things..perhaps she is worried she has not said enough.. or maybe she feels a sudden urge to control others since her own life is near to its end.. Just be kind. Just be kind and make sure everyone hugs her alot. God bless your family.
