|

For instance.....like the pens and calendars, etc. that they give you in order to get you to buy from them?I had a letter come across my desk from a company saying not to send them Christmas gifts because of the Fair Business Practices Laws. And today a guy came in and wanted to give me a calendar, but I told him we couldn't accept gifts. I am a Christian and I just want some views on what is legal and what is morally right and fair.1 day ago - 2 days left to answer.

It's not against anything God has said to accept or to decline a gift. Salvation anyone??? case and point.God does honor the laws of man, as stupid as most of them are, for the purposes of honoring the governing bodies He ordains, as incompetent as the people are within them.So God will hold you to account for the laws men decide on. So those speeding tickets are something you will have to answer for but Daniel won't have to answer for not worshiping His king's god because he's following God's law in the process. If it's a human law obey it to the fullest degree, until it conflicts with God's law. As for gifts involving fair business practices and all, you should pray about it... and if you're still not sure, turn them down just to be on the safe side. The Lord will convict you to do what He would like you to do... if you let Him

Well I don't know anything about the Fair Business Practice Laws, but I can't think of any reason that God would require you to send back a pen (or calendar or whatever) that someone has sent you of their own choice. It's not payment, it's not a bribe or a deal; it's just a reminder that a certain company is out there.

As long as the gift comes with no expectation of favoritism, yes. Say if you deal with a company and they send all of their vendors a gift, no problem. But if the gift is to influence decisions, then it should be turned down. Since it's difficlut to know someone elses motives, you may be making the right decision to turn them all down.

there are many laws and corporate regulations about such things... in general, don't do it. as to the advertising / solicitation practice, it's is legal to send junk, but it's no strings attached... any unsolicited merchandise that was intentionally shipped to you is yours... no obligation whatsoever.

A calender shouldn't be an issue. Now if we were talking a vacation with the expectation of reciprocation in some way, that would be a different story. I have a whole drawer of address labels, stationary, lapel pins etc. that charities and businesses send me to encourage giving to their particular charity, or using their particular products or services. They were unsolicited and it was not unlawful for me to keep them. I also have my choice of calenders at the start of each New Year to chose from. It's o.k. to accept a calender. Just watch out if the gifts get too large. God bless!!

I don't think this has anything to do with you're being a Christian (no offense I am Christian too), this is advertising. The theory is that if you use the gift and need the product associated with it you will probably buy from that supplier. If you know positively that you will never need that company's products then decline the gifts. If, however you do use their products or ones like them accept the gift unless your company has a policy against it. The donor does not expect anything in return. This is very cheap advertising and puts personal contact with the consumer as the way to get their product known.

If they are using this as a advertisement than it is not a free gift. The bible says that everything belongs to god,he is just letting us use his money. If this is causing you to buy things or spend money you can't afford. Then by all means, stop this temptation.

When you are given a pen or calendar it is an advertisement for someones business. It is not a personal gift. When someone wants to give you something valuable so you will do business favors for him it can be bribery. Some people will give things like bottles of wine/liquor, gift cards for expensive meals, plane tickets etc. These are not simple ads for someone, they are bribes. As a Christian, you can ask and expect the Lord to tell you inside when you are being bribed. You will feel that hesitancy/negative feeling that says, "wait a minute, somethings not right here...". It doesn't need to be legalistic. This is a good question. The Bible is definitely down on people accepting bribes. God is into radical honesty in all business practices. We all need to know how to handle this!!I found 18 different verses in the Bible that condemned taking bribes. You can read them by going to www.BibleGateway.com and doing a word search on the word Bribe and see them all for yourself. =) I still don't know how to do links to get to sites, sorry!! =(
