My favorite gift was the one that usually only one person thought of.......a gift card for the local baby store to go and buy the things that I did not already receive as gifts.

At Wal-Mart buy a woven laundry basket one of the pretty ones. Get a small or medium one Line it with a baby blanket no tissue paper! Fill it with baby toys! She will get tons of bathroom stuff for baby, clothes more then she knows what to do with and diapers. Do something different. car seat toy, stroller toys, and toy 0-3months is good, teeth-er rings. Go down the aisle with toys and pick what is cute to you. Then rearrange them in the basket cute! you may also want to add some Mylacon drops for baby's gas! have fun!!!

I often make up kits for new parents. It might include: A small trash can, Vitamin E for stretch marks, A quart water bottle full of lollipops and freezepops for labor, phone card for the hospital, Baby Tylenol/ and/or a thermometer (because it's three in the morning when you need them the first time!) Desitine and petroleum jelly, a nipple brush (so hard to find sometimes!) A dishwasher bag for binkies nipples etc, baby socks and mittens, and a coupon for babysitting. If I add an outfit it's usually size 6-9months -they'll have plenty of newborn to 3 months. In every kit I add a nice candle and bubblebath for when those parents finally get a break and a blank book to record their thoughts. But I've also given frozen meals, movie rental coupons, and gift certificates depending on the couple.

How about a cute, personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? They have nice ones for boys here: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ The artist is a mom.
