My nephew is turning 8 soon and I'm low on cash. I could buy him one decent birthday toy, but he'll likely get bored of it soon afterward. I've been itching to get crafty lately and I'd love to make him some birthday gifts.I've thought of making a personalized memory card game where the images that he has to match would be photos of our family members and pets. I'd glue the pictures to index cards and have those cards laminated. Also, I want to blow up his favorite picture of him and grandma (he LOVES grandma) and fix that to cardboard and cut it into puzzle pieces so that he can play with that.I know he'd enjoy these gifts. I'd like to gather more ideas and the answers community seldom fails me in this area! Thanks!

I would knit him or crochet something for the winter months like a hat or some socks. Something that he would remember or even keep for a lot of years as a souvenir.

How about sewing a special pillowcase with some special writing or verse. Maybe make a pillow to lay on his bed. Buy some fabric with roads and streets on it and make him a mat for hot wheels.

I think both your ideas are great. Another idea might be a t-shirt of him and grandma or him and his favorite pet. Or if he really likes photos, get him a photo album and a disposable camera. You can put a few pictures of family and friends in the album to get him started and let him do the rest. Every kid I know loves taking pictures, and I'm sure he'll enjoy looking at them later.

| The picture is a really great idea, but why don’t you go ahead and turn it into a handmade portrait or painting. Send it to http://www.paintyourlife.com and they will create a wonderful portrait out of it – on oil, pencil, charcoal or on canvas. Try it out! It doesn’t cost much. The same company also has a studio for oil paintings reproductions. If you are looking for an affordable gift urgently, you can take a look at their 'stock on sale'.
