| My boyfriend and I have been dating for about five years. I am 24 he is 30. Every year for Valentine's Day we have kept it sweet and simple. We have not exchanged big gifts. I made a spontaneous purchase and bought him a $150 jacket today (that I know he needs) and I am having second thoughts about giving it to him tomorrow when I see him. I dont want to be disappointed with his gift to me if it turns out to be the usual chocolates/flowers and a card. Chocolates and a card is great but, I dont want to set myself up to be disappointed. I dont want to go over the top if he is not planning to. |

| well considering you keep it simple, giving him the jacket may make him feel bad for not gettign you something large. you could always give him the jacket tomorrow and keep tonight simple. This way he doesn't feel bad.Or... He could have you a large gift as well.. you never know. |

| The same thing happened to me. I got my boyfriend a big present, after we decided to only do small ones this year. It was my choice and I wanted him to know that I appreciate everything he does for me and that I love him. I just let him know that he does not need to feel bad because he does so much for me all year long and its only money and money dosen't equal love. He was ok with it after that and loved his present. I only ended up getting dinner and candy/card and I was ok with it. Yeah I was a little disapointed but just had to tell myself that deserves it and I don't need a big gift in order to know that he loves me. Material things aren't everything and its nice to totally suprise him sometimes. He will love it and maybe next year or sometime during the year he will return the favor. Hope this helps have a good one. |
