well, i'm not really a fan of the book, but i don't hate the author or the characters. but it seems like others are really crazy about it, so i guess it really did make a great change.

I fall somewhere inbetween the fans and the haters. I do not dislike the Harry Potter books, I enjoyed reading them, but there are other fantasy writers i like better. I enjoyed the earlier books more as they had more humour and more details about school life, and they were not so long. i think they are good books, but I am not overwhelmed by them like some people are.I thought the bit where Neville's mother gave him the sweet paper was very touching, and I liked the way his grandmother told him he should be proud his parents had given their sanity to fight Voldemort, rather than trying to hide it. I am glad that the books helped your friend, I think that is really great.I would not say that I envy J.K. exactly, because though I would love to be able to write, I would never have written books like hers as i did not like school and would never have chosen to write about it. So i can't really see myself in her place. Also i would find the degree of wealth and fame she has too overpowering. It would be altogether too much for me. But i don't grudge her her fame or her money, she has brought a great deal of pleasure to a vast number of people.

Well, I don't really hate them.It was touching ,yes, like you said, Neville's mother gave him an empty sweet wrapper even though she was insane she cared and loved him so much...So Why must we keep on going on ranting?I don't hate, there are some bits that i dislike a little, that will NEVER MEAN that I hated them.Yes, they keep little firm secrets, that's what mothers do when you're young, but when you grow up,you understand, for sure why and you should NEVER EVER PUSH YOUR MUM ASIDE EVEN WHEN SHE'S IN HER EIGHTIES OR NINETIES!You only have one mum.Your best friend should always understand that.Remorse cannot revert time and redo your actions, but there is always a dose of a kind word to keep yourself in other's good books.Just as it always will be, I will still say you must not have much hate for JK Rowling or Harry Potter, they explained so much to life.

I don't hate HP. It's one of my favorite books. Yeah i would tell her that too, My favorite books are Harry Potter and the Twilight series, I think it is amazing that J.K can make a character that makes you care for him/her. J.K made you care for/love Harry, and Stephenie Meyer made you fall in love with Edward/Jacob. They are the greatest authors and I LOVE there books! Go Harry Potter and Twilight series!

Love the books - hate the media and the hype.Yes, Harry is an awesome set of stories. However - there are so many more millions of books that are just as good, if not better. Such as Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, Roald Dahl stories (sooo good for the imagination), Colin Dann and his stories about The Animals Of Farthing Wood, Enid Blytons Famous Five, Secret Seven - THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE! Recommend "she's come undone" by Wally Lamb to your friend. Honestly, I read it when I was 15 and no other book has stayed with me more.I just think that the media surrounding Harry Potter is way too much. Yes, it opens children up to reading, but can block the way too if all they wait for is the next hype. The exciting thing about books is finding one which you relate to...and there are so many that are life changing in this respect. Also, JK Rowling - good author, but her devices are pretty see-through. Any student of English can see right through her references - which become generic and cliched. I also think that in her last book, she sold out to the man - meaning she wrote for the movie. SHe gave it a film ending - not a good book ending. I lost a lot of respect for her for that. But yeah, great set of books - just don't let the glitz and glam of it all stop you getting into other, better things.

You said it all...I can't understand why someone could hate books whose central theme is love, friendship and doing what is right even when it is hard. oh BTW...I cried in OOTP when Neville's mum gave him the wrapper and he put it in his pocket...it just tugs at your heatstrings Smile

I LOVE Harry Potter!I know what you mean. I got into this agruement with this one girl at school, she said the movies are better, and i said, "have you ever picked up one of the books" and she said no. then i told her how can you hate it if you never read one, she goes, "i'm too lazy too read them..." then i asked her how can she hate the books and never read them but love the movies. It was so stupid so i just dropped the subject. Some of my friends hate it, but once i told them i love it, then used the word dislike instead of hate. And then my other friends like HP but don't read the books and only see the movies. Only like 1 of my friends read them and we had a contest to see who could finish the 7th book first (at the time we were both on book 6 and on the same ch) and of course i won.... Yes they changed my life alot because i love reading, and if i haven't read Harry Potter i wouldn't be addicted to answers or be answering this question =)

HP haters are like Dementors sucking all the joy out of reading. Regardless of transparency, anything that makes a child want to read is a good thing. The series made my nephew want to discover other books. He has since discovered Madeleine L'Engle,Susan Cooper and others that aren't on hype list.

I loved the books. they did not have a huge impact on my life except to give me an escape when I read them. I think it is pretty awesome that the Potter series got kids reading.

i used to think I hated it and couldnt understand what all the hype was about. Because the first time i read it i was 9...i didnt really understand it. then one day when i was 14 i wass really really really bored...so i picked it up and went "lets give it another try"....since the ive been lovin ever single word of it and now ive come to eally undestand the phrase "dont judge a book by its cover"....lolbut some people (my friend for example) dont read it because they beleive it teaches people magic.....which is against their religion and i do respect them for doing so because theyve put eligion before anything else which is something i admire and they should be able to they can lead the life they want and noone should change thatbut some people dont like hp cos its not their style.....so what.....if they dont like it....let them.....its their desicion.....its not your choice...just because u like them does NOT mean everyone else will or should...let people live their own lives without interfering and telling them what to doEveryone should have the right to choose how they lead their livesand anyway there are loads of other great books out there in the big wide world
