|
|
| As a graduation gift a friend offered to buy me any laptop that i want. Any suggestions from all of you computer gurus? I want something that will be reliable in college and won't get hurt if it gets a little bounced around. I also want it to be compatible with anything I may need to install. I'm thinking some sort of macbook/vaio or pc..Thanks! |

| Don't get a macbook. It's an over priced pile of junk. You can get the same thing in a pc for 500-800 vs 1500. |

| Don't get an apple, their overpriced and you can only buy apple accessories with them. You can find a way better laptop for a lower price. |

| ITS SO FUNNY WHEN PEOPLE DONT HAVE AN ANSWER. But all they will say is "dont buy an apple" i say have them buy two macbooks, one for them one for you. |

| I would recommend a Macbook (2.2GHz white) with super drive. I bought one and is very happy with it. Screen is sharp and bright, and the build is rock solid. You can easily install Windows using bootcamp and switch between MacOS and Windows if required. The iLife package should set you up nicely already, you can get student edition of MS Office for mac if you need something more powerful. My personal configuration have been configured for triple boot using rEFIt -- MacOS, Linux and Windows. My Linux distribution is Ubuntu, planning to put Vista SP1 on the Windows partition. WIFI driver in linux is using ndiswrapper, not great but okay.Swapping HDD and RAM on macbook is a breeze, only need to remove two screw in the battery compartment. I have since upgraded to a 200GB 7200 rpm SATA drive (~$160) and 4GB of memory (~$200).Hope this helps. |

| Go to Cyberpower.com--you can buy a good laptop there with anything you want on it. As for bouncing around, all are best not bounced. I just bought one from them and its great! More for your money there. |
