You are blaming women in general when society as whole has created this holiday. It is largely pushed by the corporations and media. My hubby and I have planned to take turns each year for who plans Valentine's day and gifts are not a requirement and he knows that diamonds are not my best friend. I see the commercials around Vday that suggests to guys that if they don't buy me some kind of diamond jewelry, chocolate, and flowers that he will be in the dog house and that is simply not the case and it pisses me off to be stereotyped in that way. If you want to celebrate Valentines, go head and just celebrate it in a way that is special and good for you and your girl. My hubby was certainly not ignored on Valentines as it was my turn to plan the day.

I think Valentine's day is lame, and I told my boyfriend to do nothing for me for that day. yet he still insisted on taking me out for sushi and even bought me some Godiva chocolates. But thanks for letting me know that I am selfish just because I'm a women. Good to know.

It's also geared towards those who are romantically involved with someone. Those who are single and don't have someone often feel left out. Have you ever thought of that aspect?

That is not most women's choices kind of something that has been thrust upon them like Mother's Day. Talk to the greeting cards company they are to blame not women.

Me and my husband do not celebrate Valentines day, or birthdays, or any thing like that, on the grounds that if you feel obligated to give each other gifts, it is not a true gift, and it is not from the heart. Instead, if we see something we know the other person would like, and it isn't too expensive, then we buy it for the other. Last week my husband bought me a beautiful painting that he saw hanging in a shop window, because he knew I would like it. Last month I bought him a computer program that you can design a house with, and landscaping. I know he loves that stuff, so I bought it for him.
