I think that's a wonderful idea. Plus cleaning supplies are so expensive and often overlooked when doing a budget. I know whenever my mom would give me cleaning supplies when I first moved out, I was so grateful. Also, my husband and I finally bought a nice garbage bin for our kitchen a few months ago. I just couldn't see spending money on a nice garbage bin. Spices are also very expensive. I think either idea is great.

That is the Best Idea! If you have moved out, you know how expensive it is to get all those little essentials. They will love you for it. (And remember, whatever they buy themselve, they will probably only buy the "have to have's" because they probably won't be able to get all that they want or need - so buy a few of the "goodies" that aren't necessarily the "must have's" - an example is: they have to have the salt & pepper, but would love to have the cinnamon or bacon bits or something like that, or they have to have the dishsoap, but would love to have one of the little white magic sponges - you get the idea, right.) You can also make it alot more fun by tieing the items together with yarn, string, whatever - the top item will be tied to the others and they just pull them out of the filling - peanuts, paper, whatever works.

Hi. I like both your ideas, but I think I would go with the laundry idea before buying staples (i.e., flour, sugar, etc.)Another idea I have seen (at my daughter's shower) is to buy all of the "kitchen essentials" such as.....potato peeler, spatula, measuring spoons, wisk, etc. All the essentials you need to cook! You could even go to a dollar store to get these.

I think those ideas are terrific! Especially since it's their first time out on their own. I really like the laundry hamper idea. SO CUTE!

I think either of those ideas is great. Especially the laundry hamper one. I for one would love to receive something like that. It shows you actually took care to think about a gift and put your own touch into it. Go for it!

I am a little mixed. Honestly I don't like the idea of food given in a garbage can. Kinda grosses me out. However, the laundry hamper, is totally cute!!! I would be a little careful though. since you are coming from the grooms family, don't make it seem like you expect her to assume a cooking and cleaning role as soon as she wed's your male family member (some people do that when a male family member gives those gifts, but you know teh situation better than me). SOLUTION - include some things like special detergent for delicates/intimates, lingerie bag, potpourri sachets for lingerie drawer. Little things like that which still work with your theme but show a little more pampering to the bride.

Do the cleaning supplies! That's an expense that hardly anyone ever figures in to owning a new home. I received a basket like that when I bought my first place and it was such a money saver.Side note: I decided to do that for my cousin's shower and 3 other people did the same thing. LOL, great minds, right?

A really great idea. Have you seen the wedding cakes made from towels, then tuck things in and around the towel cake?Great for showers. We make then for bridal and baby showers.Try looking them up on line and if you are creative you can make one. They are a hit. They don't always mention this but when making one buy a cardboard cake round to build it on.Can purchase them at a craft store and when finished take tulle pull it up and add a large bow to finish it off.

I think these are great ideas if you can't afford to purchase any of the big ticket items on the registry. Here are a few other ideas1. You can always do a gift card to one of the places they've registered in any amount you want. They will probably get several & then they can use these together to purchase any big item they didn't get.2. White bath towels & hand towels are always great! They go with anything & are always nice to have around to use for guests.

i think the laundry hamper filled with cleaning supplies sounds nicer than a garbage bin filled with cooking supplies. maybe its the garbage bin thats throwing me off! my hubby says the cleaning supplies might be taken as an insult if they think you are hinting they won't keep their home clean? how about using a good sized stock pot filled with cooking essentials as you suggested? instead of garbage bags throw in a couple of bamboo spoons and spatulas, measuring spoons and cups, etc.whatever you choose they will be thrilled! have fun at the shower!

The first idea is great! When my husband first bought his house that's what my mom did for him (this was before we got married) - she got him a laundry basket with some detergent, a couple kitchen towels, some dish soap, etc. Great idea! My husband appreciated it very much.
