OK so my bf is really sweet and really funny... but he's not a very good bf. I've tried asking him to start being much more open, but he just doesn't get it. For example, he told me he was getting me a gift for Valentine's day. Well it's now April and he hasn't given it to me. He never answers my texts and can be really immature when i talk to him about it. On the other hand, he doesn't defend me, his parents read his emails and txts. So they end up telling their frnds and family. But he doesn't say anthing. I've tried breaking up w/ him, but it's hard, i've known him since the 6th grade and my emotions for him always take over. What do you think i should do?

From what you have typed, it seems like he isn't your boyfriend....doesnt defend you, oh know..(gifts aren't what matter...)You should talk to him about how you feel.

Tell him that unless he changes that his status will be reduced to "just friends" and maybe he will see this as a wake up call.

The question may be - why are you settling for this? It's about you, not him. Once you get out of the victim mode, you'll know that you have always been in control even if it means settling. Get empowered girl and if you can't do it alone get help. You've got the whole world open to you and there's so many great, emotionally available guys out here. Make yourself available. Good luck. Time is of the essence! And smile! It can only get better.

What makes you think you have a boyfriend? What you have here is an immature child who has yet to be taught some manners. From the way you describe your parents, however, I think the chances of that happening are slim to none, as they seem to be just as rude and clueless as he is. Why don't you find yourself a guy who has been raised by a decent family, i.e. who knows the basics of polite behaviour? You are wasting your time with the idiot you have now.
