I'm going to a bridal shower for a friend/coworker of mine. We're not exceptionally close, but we are friends and hang out outside of work. I cannot go to the wedding because it's on the same days as my college graduation, but I'm going to the shower and I have no idea what to buy for a gift as I've never been to a shower/wedding before. Do I shop from the wedding registry? I have very little money since I go to school full time and only work part time, so I need something inexpensive. I don't want to get her a gift card, because I cannot afford a lot and I don't really like to advertise how little money I have. Does anyone have any suggestions for a shower gift from a girl who has very little money but still wants to buy a thoughtful present?

Buy a picture frameOr one piece of Corningware (it'll put you out $50 but she'll definitely use it)

Picture frames are great...or create a little date basket for her to enjoy with her new husband...like a basket with a bottle of wine, some popcorn, a movie rental gift card.

In this case, I would stick to the registry. Don't worry, lots of people register for things in all price ranges. I'm sure she's got something on there in the way of measuring spoons or coasters or something. Pick something like that, and include a cute note that somehow ties the gift into a love theme. For example, with measuring cups or spoons, include a hand-written note tied with ribbon around them that says, "Always measure in love" or something. Then the bride to be will always associate that gift with you, and the added thought you put into it.But definitely, stick to the registry. If she were a closer friend, I'd say get creative, but especially because she's also a coworker, it's best to give her something you know she already wants.

Are you any good at writing poems? A Personal poem that you have written can be worth more than anything you could buy.

They are going to have a ton of pictures from the wedding and honeymoon so give her a picture frame or two. You can get nice ones at stores like Marshall's that are appropriate for gifts. Two purchased at Marshall's should only set you back about $15.00. Then go to the dollar store and get the gift bag or wrapping paper there. Other ideas are salad tongs or similar kitchen items.

Go with items on the registry. Usually people register for lots of different priced items, like kitchen gadgets, bathroom items, etc. I'm sure you can find something on the registry in the $25 range or whatever yout budget is. Buying a gift that someone wants is being thoughtful

So many people have this very problem. Depending on your budget I would recommend go to a Discount Store, Dollar Store, Wal Mart, purchase a nice plastic box with the lids, fill it full of the small kitchen gadgets. So many brides receive two or more of some items. But you can always use two measuring cups, measuring spoons, spatulas, wood spoons, pot holders, salad spoons, drink coasters, kitchen timer, meat thermometer, etc. You get the idea. Even for those who are not gourmet cooks can use extra small kitchen items. The plastic box can then be used for storage of another item she will receive at the shower. One can never have enough of the good storage boxes. You can purchase those cheap and in different sizes. Just think of the things that you would use in your kitchen almost daily even for a single person, and never have two of and have to wash the item to use it again. You can even purchase the grocery list pads, sticky note pad, etc. Anything that one can use daily. I hope this helps.

My daughter is getting married in May & at her shower someone brought a gift that was in a pizza box. It was the neatest thing. Inside was a pizza pan, a pizza cutter, an oven mitt & a recipe. Your local pizza place will give you a box & then just tie a ribbon around it. It didn't cost an arm & a leg, but there was some thought put into the gift that meant a lot.. My daughter loved it..

One of the shower gifts I got was a basket that someone made themselves. Inside was 365 Ways to Cook Pasta and there were 2 kitchen towels with a Chef theme, a jar of pasta sauce, a pasta pronto kit ( I think you make spagetti in it?) It was super cute!A fun idea I always like to do for a house warming gift or a party is a movie night basket. I get a large tub for popcorn, a box of popcorn - usually 2 inexpensive movies 1 for the guy, and 1 for the girl. You can usually find them for $5 at walmart worst case. Then get some movie candy and some soda...you could totally do a thoughtful gift for under $20. Works every time. It looks like you took the time and energy to put together a nice gift that is very original.

I love the kits ideas. You can really do a lot with that basic idea. Two cute big mugs from the dollar store, two packages of cocoa mix, a cheap acrylic lap blanket from Dollar general, and a gift certicicate from Bockbuster. Total cost $12 plus tax. Or go by a cheap teflon omelet pan from Walmart, and some pretty recipe cards [0r some 3x5 index cards, and write down some good sounding omelet recipes. Or pick any kind of pan, and find recipes for it. A 13x9 cake pan with lid, and bar cookie or cake recipes. A couple nice cookie sheets, and cookie recipes. Use allrecipes.com for inspiration and recipes.A inexpensive basket, with individual serving size packages of popcorn, peanuts, chips, a couple Hershey bars, and a gift card from blockbuster. Could keep that one under $15. I bought from Walmart, a set of three spring form pans, it cost $8, love them, make cheesecake with them all the time. I used deluxe cheese cake II by buffy off of allrecipes.

Can you paint? The reason I ask is the best shower gift we got was a hand painted tray that we use all the time. Two of my friends had one done and their names and the shower date put on the back. Even if you aren't super talented, it wouldn't take a lot or you could even get some stamps and stamp a design on the tray. I know how much I love mine and how often we use it. At the time, I wasn't sure but it has turned out to be the best gift we received.

Maybe for her wedding, I’ll have to suggest www.creanta.comThey turn any image, including your favorite photograph into an amazing and affordable hand made painting. Maybe one of her and husband to be to hang on their walls? What I liked of them is that they at reeeeaally good at capturing the physical likeness. Not to mention very, very affordable. I was very impressed with the results. In addition to portrait paintings they also do paintings of pets, landscapes and anything that means something to you (like your first car, favorite vacation spot, etc). They’re the nicest people… they even enhanced the original photograph I had at no extra charge. I highly recommend them.Best wishes!!
