This is my second child and I'm wondering what the proper thing to do is. Do I have to send out thank you cards for gifts received? I probably have received gifts from over 30 people, and I dont have time to do that many cards with two kids.

If you had time to open the gifts, then you have time to send thank yous.Every gift was purchased as a nice gesture towards you and your child. Return the favor by taking 5 minutes to write a card telling them you appreciate it..........or next time just refuse the gifts. Might as well be rude to their face as to do it behind the excuse of "I don't have time"

Do you have a friend among those 30-some people whom you can ask for assistance? I don't mean that you ask them to write the thank-yous for you, but to help. Have you no husband? SOMEONE???Set a time when you know the kids are going to be as quiet as they can be... one is already to bed, the other is still breast-feeding... whatever! Gather up your writing materials, and sit down with your helper...Helper: Can stamp/address envelopes, seal them, check off which ones have been done. If the children get restless, the helper can attend to them. You: Write the actual notes. Only 1-2 sentences are sufficient. They need not be TOMES! "Thank you for your thoughtful gift of <fill in the item>. It will come in SO handy with the new little one around now!" or whatever nicey-nice comment you wish to make. If the children get restless, and YOU MUST attend to the children, the do so. Your helper can be doing their "thing" in the meantime. The entire process should only take about an hour or 1-1/2 hours at the MOST. Then thank your helper, give them a hug, kiss, piece of cake, coffee, and back home with them... or if it is your husband, you don't need to sent HIM back home... I HOPE!!!Please give it a try. A quiet Sunday afternoon... a quiet evening after dinner... that's all you need.Have a polite day.

Is this a joke?I have two kids, and I don't have a problem making time to fill out thank-you-cards for gifts received. Neither do the other mothers out there that are reading this.Of course you have to make thank-you's. If you had seven kids and two hundred thank-you's to fill out you would still need to do it.

They had time to go to the store, but you a present and attend your shower, but you are too busy to send a thank you? I wouldn't expect many people arriving for your third shower if this is your attitude!

Your first answer is right, you should send them all thank yous, or atleast phone them, or send them emails to say thank you or phone them.

These people took the time to buy you a gift & spend their hard earned money. The least you can do is write & send Thank yous. It's the right thing to do.Otherwise your saying....I can take time away to go to my baby shower & open all of these gifts, but I'm too busy to Thank you properly for them.Write & send them.
