Well, my mom's gifts were pretty simple--some cute onesies, some books, some toys, but she also was the one who threw the shower for me...

If there are family heirloom items that can be handed down, that would be great. Otherwise, I would suggest a nice child china set - plate, bowl, cup - Peter Rabbit or something like that. I got a couple of those when my son was born, and at first I thought they were dumb, but I ended up using them a lot. The child-size spoon, fork sets are nice, too. These gifts will last, and can even be passed down, unlike a cute outfit which will only be worn a few times.

Buy her something really nice, a stroller and carseat or the crib. My own mom passed away before she could ever meet my daughter but I know she would have bought her something really nice. Just don't be like my MIL, she is a cheap ***** and bought NOTHING for my baby shower and even when Christmas came she bought NOTHING for the baby's first Christmas. Needless to say, she is going to get NOTHING for her birthday and I'm not even going over there next Christmas. |

As a grandmother you have to buy a nice gift that unfortunetly should be more expensiv ethen the other gifts. A stroller, play area, blanket and such are all very nice. Something handmade like a knitted blanket that you knitted yourself is akways the best gift.

umm...anything and everything!! grandparents r usually said to get the big, most important things like strollers and high chairs, but its really not sumthing that theres a specific answer to. i think the best thing to do is ask the mom-to-be what she really wants, like the main thing that caught her eye when she did her registry and get her that!

Usually a bigger shower registry item - car seat, stroller, pack n play, highchair - something that is a must-have.My in-laws pitched in and helped us with the purchase our sons furniture for his room.

I would suggest the things that "friends" or "non mothers" wouldnt think of. A huge amount of various sizes of diapers, gift certificates to the local grocery store (food is expensive), something for the mom like.... a massage or mani pedi, a digital camera, or gift certificate to have the pictures printed, photo albums, baby lotion and bath gel. Just think about what you were short on when you had your baby. Im sure Im missing a bunch of things. But do basics. I know thats what I would want. Its expensive to get the basic everyday things a baby needs.

How about a cute, personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? Personalized gifts are the most "unique" of all, and they are always treasured. They have cool ones under "Personalized Art" at: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ The artist is a mom. We have two for our twins: "Safari Adventures" for Brayden and "Express Train" for Bryan.
