Hi everyone,I am currently conducting research for a study into the perception of Gift Cards and whether they are an 'acceptable' gift for someone.Gift Vouchers are being replaced more and more these days with cards, and people see them as a convenient way to get a gift, especially when you do not have a clue what to get someone!Do you think gift cards are a fair gift or just the 'lazy' option? Does it matter who its for and the occasion? Also what is an acceptable fee to pay for a Gift Card before you have even topped it up?Any thoughts would be really helpful, and further still, if you have the time the link below is a really short questionnaire on it (will take 30 secs max..honest!)http://www.my3q.com/home2/223/payzone/66990.phtmlThanks for your help!

I think they are great because this way it gives the person to get whatever they want.I rather receive them, so I don't have to return the item that they bought me.Smile

For birthdays i give maximum £15 on a gift card. xmas i usually give between £15-£30. Its not lazy. If i gave money to someone if i didn't know what to buy them, they would spend it on drugs or something that won't last. I buy giftcards from clothes stores mostly.

In all honesty, I think gift cards are wonderful. Unless you know exactly what a person wants, gift cards are the way to go. They're easy, and they allow the person to get exactly what they want. I work in retail, and I see so many returns, I hear so many people say "well I think they might like this, but I'm not sure on the size..." 9 out of 10 times the item gets brought back. ~I think the amount of money you put on the gift card depends on who the gift is for, what store the card is from, and how well you know the person, and of course how much you think you can afford.

Gift cards are a perfectly acceptable gift in my opinion, you allow the receiver the opportunity to get what they really want rather than guessing on your own.0, zero, nada, zilch. That is the acceptable fee to pay for a gift card. You are guaranteeing the company business when you buy a gift card, you should never be charged any fee whatsoever for a gift card.

yes they are great if you don't know what to get someone, but for those who do know what to get the person it is just lazy. the amount on the gifft card depends on the store you are getting it from.it does matter the occasion, you don't want to get a gift card for an anniversary or valentine's day but for a birthday of a 12 year old would be fine.

i think it does depend who its for and what shop too! i would never get one for a close relative or a best mate but i would get one if it were for a distant relative or friend and if the person would benefit more from vouchers than a present (eg, mothercare vouchers for a christening would benefit the parent and child more than a silver cup) or if it's being sent through the post (because of the size and flatness)vouchers are greatly appreciated by all means, but i think everyone enjoys opening presents!i would put minimum of £10 on a voucher depending on who its for and what shop (you cant buy much for £15 in harrods, whereas it could get you quite a bit in WHSmith)

I think gift cards are perfectly acceptable. They're actually great so the people can get whatever they want, that way no one will be offended if the item gets returned. I usually put about $25 or higher on a gift card.
