Would it be odd to give three of something (like three settings of china, or three sets of flatware) where the couple requested 12? I'm used to giving in even numbers (like 2 or 4 or maybe 6), but the store is having a buy two get one free sale on their patterns.I'm probably going to buy both the shower gift and the wedding gift soon, so if you have different answers for shower vs. wedding, please share them both!

not really and besides it could be a spare if a piece gets broken. they should be happy to get the items they registered for.

Buy what you can afford. If you buy 2 get one free it is still more than one set for them to use. If you buy 4 and get two free that makes six and half of what they wanted. I am sure someone else could buy another lot for them. Do you know anyone else going to the wedding maybe they can go halves with you and get all twelve if you can both afford it or maybe three of you can put in together? Never know until you ask someone else!. Or buy 2 + 1 free for the shower gift and buy 2 or 4 for wedding gift - you could layby the wedding gift for later if possible? Good luck with whatever you choose.

I see no problem with giving three. Could you ask around and see if someone else is doing the same? That way you would know they are receiving an even number for your own peace of mind.

i would suggest buying a set of 6 if they asked for that many, so you'd get the sale twice, and could give 2 at the shower and 4 at the wedding.

no, three is okay. If they requested 12, you will get them 3 and then someone else will probably get them a few so eventually, they will end up with all 12! Im sure they would be happy that you were able to take advantage of the good sale!!
