|
|
I'm contemplating on whether or not I should have a baby shower. My fiance is deployed in Afghanistan so it would be nice to get both families together and involved but on the other hand, by the time we pay for the shower, we probably could have purchased the total gifts ourselves! It's our first child so we're starting from scratch... and I would be throwing it for myself...If yes, any money-saving tips?My family is small and I just figured I'd throw it myself to avoid not getting one... =] great answers so far guys!! thank you!

Absolutely!!! I don't see why it should cost so much??? You can just have nibblies, a few games, maybe show your scan dvd & pics (if you've had one). Me personally, I'm throwing my own and having a bbq in the backyard and byo drinks, how very Aussie of me! I'm sure once everyone knows you're having a shower they will offer to help - so let them!

you should somehow hint around to a family member or friend that u were hoping for one and if they dont get the idea then bring it up to another friend or family member. It is kind of bad etiquette to throw yourself a shower because it is like asking people to buy you gifts...but if need be and u feel like u want one then go for it. Try not to go all out on decorations and party gifts and things like that. You can ask close friends or family to help bake/cook food and instead of going with a themed party stick with solid colors to cut cost. Make sure u do a registry so that guests will have a nice idea of what u want/need. Babiesrus/target/walmart/burglington coat factory all have registries at their locations that u can even monitor or add/delete things online. Just make sure if u are throwing urself a shower try to call it something like a "baby celebration" instead of a shower that way it will be a gathering of friends and family but they wont feel as though your throwing it urself. You could even include little notes in your invitations letting everyone know that ur having the party as a celebration and to bring two families together to enjoy the new arrival. Good luck!!

Heck ya have a shower, try making it a potluck with each family member at least bringing one dish. Too bad one of your family members isn't throwing the shower for you, they should!! Congrats 2 you! (my husband has been deployed 4x so I know what you're going through).

I've always been told not to throw a shower for yourself. I guess it's considered bad taste. However, if you want to invite family and friends over to celebrate your growing child then go for it! A shower doesn't have to be expensive. My friends at work threw me a shower and it was just finger foods, games, and hanging out.

Yes you should def have a shower, it is more than getting gifts , its spending time with the ones you love that love you and that want to share in this sacredness and happiness of bringing a baby into the world. You can use minimal decorations, get finger foods like sandwhiches and chips then of course your cake, you can look up on the internet "free" baby shower games, and have it at a location such as your house where it is free. I actually had my shower at my church also free and did all this and I spent only about 50.00 for my shower but yet received hundreds and hundreds in gifts, but like I said its not about the gifts. You deserve it, have a little fun and throw yourself a baby shower, good luck and congratulations.

yes! definatly have a baby shower!! have the shower at a local park... or your home or familys home so its free.. i had 3 baby showers..crazy i know, i had one for friends, one for my work people and my family, and one from my boyfriends family. they were all held at their houses.. go to the dollar store and buy decorations... paper plates, etc. go to the grocery store and get dip chips soda a fruit tray (or make one) and a veggie tray.. and if you can cook or your family members can cook, cook some foods for everyone to eat. look up games online... theyre free.you will have to buy invitations and thank you cards as well but you can also get nice ones from the dollar store that come liek 7 in a pack. it will not cost you alot of money to throw a shower TRUST me lol its WAY WORTH it. you will get so many gifts and things you needgood luck and congrats!

hell ya !! i would definitely do a baby shower. i think it is worth it.. go for it !!!!!! .it's your first baby money saving tips:do a low budget baby shower by looking online or go to a place that specialises in organising baby showers and get consultation from them. if you don't know any .then ask around in shopping malls or people that already had a baby showerreally do your researchdo a yard salebe more consicious about prices when shopping for anything. collect coupons and use them when shopping in a grocery shop or mall..tutor someone a subject you're good at and charge them, maybe english to non-english speakers ask you sibilings if they can chip in , instead of buying a gift for the baby because you will get loads of gifts from your relatives.
