You want to give a gift that will make him remember of you guys forever. It really depends on how much you want to spend. I would give him a digital picture frame with photos of best moments taken in class, so everybody would be there including him. This way, he will have you all in his memory, plus he can add his own pics in the future.

Something personalized. If you have a 'Things Remembered' store near you that have some nice items.

Something functional. You guys obviously like this guy, so maybe you know a little about him personally.Gift cards and such to music places seem fine, a collection of music is lso fine. How much money are you working with?Would there be enough to give him a picture of the class, maybe a recorded cd of you guys (thanks for the music), a greatest hits from his favorite artist, or a compilation of appropriate songs, a gift card ($20-$25) to a music store, maybe a american express card or something. Make a nice basket of stuff, I don't know how many people there are, if there are 15, and everyone can put in $5, there's alot you can do.One year, in my German class, we all put in $2, and got the teacher a $40 gift card to Old Navy, she loved it!

a lot of times career people must comply to the rules and regulations their employer sets out as to how much or what they can accept from their clients or students. It used to be in the law firms that I worked for that the lawyers could accept a gift up to $25 from a person but then had to say no if it cost more.Nevertheless for teachers leaving usually they get a nice card with everyone in their class having signed it, and they get taken to lunch. That's all that's expected of you. Why not ask the principal if you're in doubt.Wine is totally out. Don't give anything personal.A teacher is rewarded by being teacher of the year and you voting for her. A picture is not necessary, and in fact may cause problems down the road for the teacher.
