What was your worst wedding gift?

Author Message Annick Yahoo User Posted: Wed May 07, 2008 9:12 pm    Post subject: What was your worst wedding gift? ...and please, don't respond all sweetly about how there is no bad gift if it comes from the heart or about what an ungrateful wench I clearly am. I think we can all recognize that gifts can be well-intentioned and kindly meant but still very unsuitable. So. What well-intentioned, kindly meant gift did you absolutely hate? A few months after we married we moved and the moving truck got hot, and the glue melted so when someone picked up the wreath the blooms all fell off, leaving long trails of hot glue residue floating in the breeze. It was probably just as well; we had no idea what to do with that thing. A good friend of mine had handmade it, but it just wasn't practical and I am not a fan of all that tchotchke stuff. A friend of the groom's mother gave us one of those little triangle-shaped shelves that fits into a corner. It was heart shaped.I know many people would love that, but I hate that kind of thing. I am not a hearts kind of girl. I'm sure it was kindly meant, but I just don't know what people are thinking when they don't know the tastes of someone and instead of playing it safe with a bath towel or something go completely out on a stylistic limb.But again, I'm sure it was kindly meant. It was probably something she fell in love with. Sometimes when you think something is great, it is inconceivable to you that someone else wouldn't.By the way, I love the way you worded your question and pre-emptively defended yourself. Yes - that is around 10 sets of different wine glasses - all of them different. We didn't have them on our gift list - but people just decided that they wanted to get us wine glasses - I mean what are we going to do with them all?! The weirdest thing was that they attended the wedding, and claimed to have left the gift back at the hotel. It was a cousin on my dad's side (the side with $$$, by the way). They said they would give it to my dad in the morning before they left. Well, they didn't, and I didn't think anything more about it, until I got a package, shipped directly from the department store, not from them. With one tea cup and one saucer. I know everyone has a budget, but if you can't afford the whole place setting, wouldn't you get a gift card for what you can afford and let the bride and groom pick up the difference??? And why not a plate--something you need extras of when you have a dinner party?We honestly think that they never brought a gift, and decided what to get based on what they thought we spent on them at the reception. It was from the heart though. Don't worry, whatever it is, you can re-gift it. Yahoo User Posted: Wed May 07, 2008 9:51 pm    Post subject: i just had my shower a few weeks...mind you it was april!I opened a box with no name no card nothing...in it was a dish towel..a pot holder and a spool rest...well they were christmas themed!! and very ugly!...like something from the 99 cent store...I am def thinking a re gift because well.. its april lol...when i asked who it was from no one fesed up i mean comon if your that embarassed dont even give it! Well, it did need a carburetor, but a set of dish towels, or even a case of toilet paper, would have been nice, too.
