I have been invited to an engagement party -- cocktail party of approximately 75 people--the groom is the son of some friends. The parents of the groom want to introduce the bride to their social circle. Wedding is going to be very small, held in another city where the bride and groom currently live. I will not be invited to the wedding as they are only having family. If the wedding was larger and being held in their home town, I would definitely be invited and would attend. In this situation, should I bring an engagement gift to the party, or send a gift from their registry?

I would send a gift from their registry. This way you know exactly what they want and need. If they have already registered then you could go ahead and get them a gift for the engagement party.

Sure you can bring them a gift. We had an engagement party and we were given money and wedding picture frames

I think it would be appropriate to send them a gift from their registry. I had an engagement party and hadn't registered for anything yet, so most people just gave money.

You do not need to bring a gift to the engagement. If they have a shower, you may bring it then.

Yes you should, if you don't know what to buy and want to make things easier on yourself , a nice card and some money will do it! this way you wont need to run around town and on top of that they will spend the money where it's need it!Been there done that!

Typically you bring the host a bottle of wine for the engagement party. Later you can select a gift off the Bride and Groom's wedding registry and have it sent to them. I have the same situation right now. I took a bottle of wine for the engagement party, I ordered a gift and had it sent for the Wedding shower. I will not be attending the wedding because my brother is getting married the weekend prior and their wedding is out of state. The bride also had a lingerie party that I did not attend. There comes a point when I believe people ask for too many gifts. As long as you get 1 gift for both the Bride and Groom, you are fine.
