|
|
| This would be my first laptop. I know its a long way away and new products will come out...but i want it as a Christmas gift. What i want is something with Windows Vista, and can support all of todays games, and beyond (at least 2-3gb memory). I was thinking apple, but that gets pretty expensive. Im thinking Dell, because they have laptops starting at $500 but once i started "Building" it, it ended up being $700 (No other Christmas gifts...lol) I wouldnt want a Gateway because thats my current computer and its given me lots of trouble. Any suggestions welcome. |

| Well if you want a more high-end laptop, you must be willing to go above $700... Especially when adding 2GB+ memory and potentially a faster CPU. But you're right, Gateway (or as I like to call it Gayway) computers aren't good quality at all. I'd recommend looking for a Toshiba, Sony, etc. that are a better quality. You can always buy a very cheap laptop and buy parts for it from places like NewEgg or TigerDirect. Memory and HDD is very cheap, much cheaper than if you were to "customize" it on a manufacturor's website.Hope that helped, and good luck. |

| You can get a macbook for about 1000. It'll do you all the good you need, including a better, in my opinion operating system and it supports most games. |

| - Consider Dell, start low and upgrade later, use some of that saved money to buy software (applications, games, ect) later. They have the best support after you buy. You'll talk to techies here in the USA. When warrenty is over at least they'll still talk to you. They stay with you until the problem is fixed even if they have pass you off to the next shift no phone charge!-You'll regret it if you buy HP. Bad machine and the worst support. You're lucky if you talk to the same guy in India after your cut off. As soon as warrenty is over they won't even give you the time of day. Some guy in California has started a class action suit over "tattooed" HP bios that make your recovery disk useless. |

| I'm having the same problem lol I need a laptop for college in a year and a half. I'm thinking of getting a Macintosh, because it resists viruses and can last longer than HP's. But it will cost only about $1,000. I think it's worth it, so that's why I want to get a job to pay for it myself. So yeah I guess I'll get that out of the way |

| I would refer to a site called pcmag.com, all they do is evaluate computer equipment. Try also going to consumerreports.org for some great advice. After you’ve chosen one you think you’d like go to a site called epinions.com for some great user reviews. I would use them, even over the masses, as everyone has a different opinion. Although I find you can spot trends with epinions.com and narrow down some good products that way. Go to froogle.com for some great prices, I use it often. Below are a couple of articles I found that you might find interesting, good luck! |
