I know that Christmas is 7 months away, but I am looking into buying a dive trip for my scuba-enthusiast husband. Would it be terribly rude to ask our parents to get Visa Gift Cards for us for Christmas instead of a regular gift? The Gift Cards would be extremely helpful with offsetting the cost of the trip. What do you think?

no it's not rude or impolite. if your family is understanding then this shouldn't be a big deal.

Depends on how much money they usually spend on your gifts. if the cost outways the usual amount I think it would be rude to expect them to do so.

This an appropriate gift, and takes pressure off of your family members to figure out what to get you.

We actually only give money or gift cards, it makes it a lot easier than trying to guess what they want.
