My 14 month old has been unable to attend daycare for the past two days. My husband stayed home with her yesterday, and I have already missed so much work I really can't take any more time off. I have a friend who is a stay-at-home Mom of two boys, one is in Grade 1 and one is 3yrs old. She has agreed to be my "back up" babysitter. I asked her if she could keep Erika today, until early afternoon and she agreed. The only question is, should I offer to pay her, or will that offend her? I was thinking about buying her a gift? (bottle of wine, chocolate, or something). Not a regular need, we have daycare, this is only the second time I've asked her in 14months, the first time was for an hour.

tell her if she ever wants a "day off" to drop off her boys to you. a somewhat even trade off. i believe in paying but in this case u can just trade off and its the same thing.

Give her a gift and a huge thank you for the favor she did for you. Or offer her some money as a sign of your gratitude for the huge helpf she was. Even better would be an offer to watch her kids once in the future to return the favor. If this becomes a continuous need for babysitting, then a payment would be in order.

I would definitely offer something...whether it is money, gift, trade off, etc. It is always a nice gesture and if she doesnt want it she will let you know!!

I think you should because she might treat your child like she do her own. Deffinally you should because she stay at home all day and she offered to babysit so yeah that would be a great idea. Also, that way you won't have to miss work and you can enjoy yourself while you can. Although, i think you should give her a gift or something that she really like or you think she like.

bring her a bottle of wine and ask her some money, if she says no, offer to return the babysitting favor while she is out someday. Try to set up a sawp system of babysitting.
