Invited to dinner, what to bring?

Normally, people bring wine as a gift but in our case, we are Christians and believe that consuming strong drink is wrong. What could we bring as a gift instead without looking cheep. If its like a barbecue, then you could bring somin' like a veggie dish. My family doesn't believe in alcoholic drinks either. If its a party where people are drinking wine, you could bring sparkling cider or something like that. You could bring Flowers or a small plant.Or a dessert like fancy cheesecake or expensive chocolates. Hope it helped!
