We purchased the laptop as a Christmas gift, since he first started using it the curser would move and click on items,on its own, sometimes words or letters would appear on screen, without even touching anything,we've taken it to be checked out,but were told they could not find a problem.

probably just the mouse.. if you use a mouse... if not then someone hacked it... why isn't he the one asking a question??? he should look out for himself!!

I had the same problem, and it's actually very simple to fix. Turn off the mousepad on the laptop. If the light is blue it's on and you accidentially hit it when you're typing.

It might be infected and being controlled by a hacker or you could just have a faulty trackpad (although that wouldn't explain the words, only the cursor movements...)

i had a similar problem, it might start typing backwards, but the curser is moving probably because it is lagging so tell him to not use it for a week, never type or move the mouse at all!!!! also leave the top up the entire time so that you can monitor it to try and see if there's a pattern! hope this helps you as much as it helped me!!!! =D

Do you mean that if you walk away for 1hour and come back without having to the touch the laptop at all the cursor would move it self? If that is then that's freaky. Well, when I'm sometime using my computer and trying to move my cursor, it'll move everywhere and click on things or go to places that i dont want it to. Its simply screwed up and too sensitive. I don't know, I get frustrated and think someones controlling my computer but it also happen when I'm not online so it cant be. Maybe it's the pad, like the sensitivity of the touch underneath the pad.p.s apprently vista is CRAP with heaps of bugs in it

Use a wire optical/laser mouse, if your using the touchpad.Check out the control panel...make sure that the touchpad/ball is clean and clear(i.e nothing blocking it)If problem not solved i would recommend switching to XP, the best. vista has had many problems lately.....CHEERS...
