I spent so much on his Christmas gift ($300.00) and he didn't even mention it. Do I ask him if he liked it?

Who's he? Your boyfriend? Don't spend that much on men... $50 is fine. he probably felt intimidated or felt like he has to give you something that he can't afford. You dont' have to ask if "he" liked it. Just see if they use it.. whatever this gift is..Your question and details are so mysterious.. you need more detail!

That depends, was it the thought that counted, if so then $300 is no different to a $3 gift, surely when you gave it to him he thanked you there and then. What is he to you, brother boyfriend, cousin? Asking someone if they like a gift is very rude as if they don't really like it they will feel obligated to lie. Ask him if he used it or does it fit or does it work or whatever I can't say as you didn't mention what it is or who you gave it to, some people find it hard to say thankyou but will show they appreciate things in other ways, it's up to you to recognise how someone thanks you for something without thinking that they will thank you the way you thank people, he might do something for you or be extra kind to you or something rather than just the words thankyou

Christmas gift?! Christmas was 5 mos ago! If you were going to make an issue of it or have a discussion about it, you should have done it a long time ago. Time to forget about it & move on.
