I am in 11th grade and I have this amazing chemistry teacher. This is her first year teaching and she has such a passion for what she does. She stayed after school with me all the time, to help me understand the material. She is such an inspiration and she has also offered to help me with physics next year, even though she will have her own new students. I want to be a teacher when I graduate and she has been such an inspiration. So I need to know what type of gift to get her. She is only about 23 years old. For a christmas gift I got her a Dunkin Donuts gift card and a thank you card that I wrote. But this time I want something really meaningful and special. Thanks in advance.

The material item can be forgotten easy so it can be as simple as a gift card to staples or a box of chocolates but the words you leave mean so much more. Write her a nice letter explaining how much you appreciated her hard work. For a first year teacher this will brighten her day and she can keep it forever and look at it when the days are not so great.Best of luck

Teachers get so many gifts, that I always recommend something "consumable", that she will be able to "use up" and not something that will only become clutter along with the 50 other gifts she will get....every year.....for her whole career! If you know something she loves--like candles, chocolates, etc.--that would probably be the best thing, but do accompany it with a note, poem, card, or something you have made yourself: that will be the most meaningful part to both of you. Lucky you had such a fine teacher, and she is lucky to have had such an appreciative student, I'm thinking.

a picture frame, a nice piece of jewelry (nice sterling is reasonably priced), a book that she might enjoy, something for her office (a desk set, etc.), most importantly a hand written note telling her how much her teaching has influenced you and made a difference in your life..that is more precious to a teacher than anything.

Might I suggest a personal, hand written letter from you. You might include things like how much she influenced you, how much you truly appreciated the time she went out of her way to work with you, what a wonderful teacher she is and finally, what an amazing job she did as a first year teacher. She will be able to cherish the letter or perhaps frame it and be able to refer to it and realize what a great job she is doing. A gift is always nice. It requires thought when looking for the "perfect" gift. A gift card is great as well...But a letter, on the other hand comes straight from the heart and is more personal. She'll be able to remember, forever, the time and the heart from which it came.

Definitely write her a personal note.Send a copy to her department chairperson and to the principal, and mention this in your letter.Gift certificate to Amazon or Barnes & Noble would work.Come back and visit her once in a while after you leave high school.Teachers do not get a lot of positive, personal feedback.Consider yourself so lucky that you have found such a wonderful teacher!

I absolutely agree with the other posters about a heartfelt note. I have a file that is filled with all of the notes and cards that I have received from students and parents. Every time I have an especially rough day (or week!) I peek in and read through some of those old letters. A note of appreciation is most likely a gift that she will keep and appreciate again. Smile
