I don't want to be rude and assume i can hunt down their registry online, like a gift stalker, but is that what i should do? the invitation just came with date, time, directions, absolutely nothing related to the gifts. should i bring a gift i find on a registry or should i pick something else that i think is a nice gift and leave the registry for the wedding gifts?

Well it is usually very tacky to attach registry places onto the invitation. That information should be obtained by word of mouth. If you know the mother, or anyone from the bridal party ask them. If you plain don't know and only know the bride, you may ask her.

Miss Manners says it's rude to say anything about gifts in the invitation. The invitation came from somebody (friend, relative, et.). Ask them. I'm sure the bride will tell them.

For a bridal shower, it is NOT rude to include the registry information with or on the invitation unless it's being thrown by the bride's mother or the bride herself. But if no information was included, yes, see if you can hunt down a registry. If you can't find one, call the bride's mother and find out if there's a theme, a gift preference, etc. Just whatever you do, don't assume it's adults only and buy lingerie or "adult" toys; I've been to many a shower where some 8-year-old eyes had to be covered because of bad gift choices.

Gift certificate to Williams Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond, Pottery Barn, or Macy's.

Select something that you think is nice, and enclose a gift receipt.
