How long does it take to get the gift card from Best Buy if they can't replace a product?

I broke my camera that I got from Best Buy and wanted to take it back. I went there yesterday and they told me it was completely damaged, like not replaceable. After they told me that, they said it would take about two weeks to send it in and give me a gift card. Has anybody had this happen to them? Does it really take two weeks for them to give me a gift card, after they told me it was not replaceable?
