Show them that you are willing to work for it. Do chores around the house and generally be mature and be a good kid for like a couple weeks-month, w/e. Then ask them if they could help buy you a DS. If they say no you have an excuse to back your arguement up that you helped around the house and were good. Maybe money is tight right now and you may have to wait.

you could do what Josh said which would be smart but you know what would be smarter... Getting a job or mowing lawns like I did when I was younger (2yrs) and save up to show your parents responsibility.

My mother, who is near 60, bought one for herself. She really enjoys it. There are many games that are aimed at older people, like Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, WordJong, FlashFocus, and various Sudoku games. Show them the different games you can get for it and see if any of them seem interesting to your parents. Tell them that even in your 30s or 40s, it's important to keep your brain active! Everyone says that parents need to spend more time with their kids, and I think gaming would be a great way to give you all something fun to do together and talk about. They might also be impressed if you offer to share the DS with them, even if they have no interest in using it.It's true that many people in the world are struggling to survive, while people in industrialized societies are using expensive machines to play games. You should be grateful for what you have, like a computer, an opportunity for a good education, a home, and enough food to eat. I hope you do get your DS, though. Good luck.

As the mother of five children, my advice would be to offer your parents the 50/50 suggestion and if they still say no save your money and buy it yourself. I, personally, make my kids chip in half on anything that costs more than $50.00USD.

Mention the academic games like Josh said and throw in the general light- heartedness of the games, as opposed to the less appropriate and more expensive psp...
