my guy and I have been together for almost 4 years now, our first xmas he bought me a sweater, then for valentine he bought me an ipod(which he broke and lost) since then I haven't gotten anything from him. Never received a bday present or anniversary gift. Today I told him," I expect a BIG bday gift and anniversary gift next year OR ELSE !!!" ( I said next year bcause this year is the first time he will spend time with his daughter for her bday I understand he wants to go all out) Did I take it too far or am I wasting my time with him? he said if he had money he would buy me something but somehow I don't believe him. It makes me sad in a way because my bday falls the day before his daughter and for him to tell me he doesn't have money but still go all out for his daughter's bday makes me not believe him even more. I know thats his daughter and I understand that I am not jealous. my point is if he doesn't have money then where is all this money coming from?just so you all know I am not materialistic, especially after 4 yrs of not saying anything; No one can call me materialistic. I just think after 4 yrs I deserve a bday gift. I buy him stuff all the time.

You're absolutely right! Its not about being materialistic, its about being thoughtful and he is obviously not thinking about you. When it comes to birthdays and anniversaries you deserve a gift, and it doesn't need to be expensive.. just something that shows you that he cared and went out of his way to make you happy.I was in a relationship like that, i got gifts in the first year then after that i got NOTHING for my bday, anniversary, not even valentines day.. his excuse was also lack of money.. when it came to his best friends bday he threw a huge party, and spent so much money on champaigne and snacks. I knew then that he's using the money thing as an excuse. If you wanna confront him, make sure you explain that its not the money, its the idea... if he doesn't change.. then run for the hills, because honeslty it looks like he takes u for granted and doesn't wanna put any effort for you.PS>i was with that guy for 3 years.
