It depends, I dont know her so I dont know actually...but if it was me i wouldnt be mad, cause it my ex and I should understand that he have moved on and so and so...but if i still care I would be dissapointed, but not mad. I think that it is really nice of u giving her something in person instead that is deffinatly better than sending it.. then u can also see her smile when u give it to her...but if u really think that she can get mad, can u write/call her saying happy birthday! and that u buyed her a present, but that she will get it when u come back, and will still be surprised cause she doesnt know what u are giving to her!...
