I was invited to her 50th birthday party and i'd love to give her a gift that will make a good impression but isnt too pricey or showy. (this will be our first time meeting). from what i know of her she's a very no nonsense type of woman. any suggestions?

If she's religious, a mobius bracelet with a prayer on it is a heart-felt gift. You can get one at: http://www.greatmothersdaygiftideas.com/category/jewelry/. Plus they have discount coupons! At the same site, I like the necklace that has the Chinese symbol for happiness...it's under $25, and you could write a nice note in the card about wishing her happiness in the years to come.Good luck!
