I am going to my nephews graduation party next week and I have no clue what to get him. Besides the brilliant idea of asking him, or giving money, I want to give something he'll love. If I was to give money, what would be the appropriate amount? He is into guitars, and plays basketball but besides that I have no idea.

A car should be sufficient enough. All joking aside, it would depend how close you are to your nephew. If you are very close, $100 would be nice. If you are not that close, $50 should be sufficient enough.

Money money money - oh, and a heartfelt letter w/ some advice as a keepsake. Trust me - at that age, all I wanted/needed was money! (I used my graduation $ to take a trip). For my cousin's graduation, I sent him a check and a letter about what I wished I'd known at his age. He has mentioned my letter several times and really appreciated the time it took me & the honest advice. I say $50 is a nice amount for the average income.

How old is he? I mean, is he graduating from middle school, high school, college...? But whichever, money is always good.

This is an exciting moment for him, so I recommend a gift that commemorates a monumental occasion. How about a Bible engraved with his name? That would be special, but not too expensive. Maybe a special watch. You might consider a collectable hunting knife. How about a plaque that he can hang on the wall that has some special philosophical saying? A briefcase--maybe one with his name or his initials, even--would be nice. So would a hard-cover, special edition of an book that you feel would give him good, wise advice.

If you know any of your nephew’s hobbies or favorite stars or things, you could take pictures of them. You can then send those pictures to http://www.photoartomation.com/ArtWork.htm Their professional artists will convert ordinary photos into art. I sent them my favorite picture of my son playing soccer and they made several preview samples of altered photos for my consideration. I chose one of them I liked the most and order a large poster print. That was awesome! My son was very, very pleased when I gave it to him as birthday present.
