Rules for joint high school graduation gifts?

My brother and I are junior and sophomore and we are going to 2 graduation parties one is a yard party and one you have to dress up for at a firehouse. How much should my brother and I put on each gift card if we are putting in for it together? Are there rules for this sort of thing. We are good friends with both girls and neither my brother nor I have jobs. We do have money though but what is acceptable because as we have no jobs we are sort of cheap.
