No, it isn't. You're showing him that you want him to have a great birthday and he will feel that you are a good friend.

Has he ever given you that expensive a gift? If so, then maybe it would be okay.... but if you give him a gift way more expensive than he has given you, it will send a message that you won't want.

If your very close then it's not too much... it's just generous. If your just casual friends and not "best" friends, I would ask mutual friends how much they're spending. Maybe then you and another friend could go in together... you'll only pay $25 but your thought is still put into it.

If you do not feel pressured into giving him that much and you can afford it, then go ahead.

If he's one of your best friends, and you know it's something he'd like, then go for it. If he's a good friend of yours, he'll be appreciative and like the gift, not accusing you of being "gay."The higher your income, the less awkward this is. For example, if you have lots of nice, high-tech stuff, it's not very weird to get someone else a nice gift. But if you're obviously lower class to lower-middle class and don't have many nice things yourself, but get someone else something nice, then that is a bit more awkward, since it's "worth more" then. But $50 dollars isn't too terribly much. If he's a best friend, then go ahead.

It depends on your money you have available.. if you earn your own money.. if you get pocket money.. it doesn't matter so much how much a gift cost but that it is chosen with care and if you know him well and he is a great friend that you give him something thoughtful ..something you know he will like.. but if you are earning your own money the $ 50 is not too much for a good friend to spend on.. but the thoughtful gesture and to really take time to look for a gift that will give pleasure is worth more than an expensive gift. a less expensive gift if chosen with care and with friendship can be of greater value....xxx
