Most of the ones I've received has been within 4 to 6 weeks. I got one at 6 months once, which I thought was pretty rude.

within 6 months is acceptable -those who give gifts understand that there are more pressing issues for the first few weeks.

According to Emily Post's guide to etiquette the bride AND GROOM (last time I checked the bride isn't the only one who got presents/money/good wishes from friends and family) should send out thank yous within 3 months of the wedding. Personally, I'd aim for no longer than a month (if you can) because otherwise it just seems like old news. Other tips:handwrite each note and include something personalized to say, otherwise there's no point in even sending a thank you - it's almost more insulting to get a "form letter" thank you or one of those tacky wedding picture thank you cards that doesn't have anything written on iteven send thank yous for attendees, not just for the gifts

Within two weeks of returning from the honeymoon. There's no reason for not sending them out later than that. People were kind enough to get the gift to the bride on time and the thankyou should be sent promptly too. It's just the right thing to do.
