My boyfriend & I were invited to an old friend’s wedding. I’ve never met the bride or groom. My boyfriend use to be good friends years ago, but rarely keep in touch. I cannot attend due to prior travel plans. My boyfriend is going alone. How much should we plan on spending for the wedding gift? I typically spend $100-$150 if we both attend. What is the “going rate” for only 1 guest?

There is no "going rate" for a wedding gift. It should be for whatever you two can afford at the time. If they have a gift registry use that as a guide on what they need.$50 to $100 is fine.

Almost all weddings I go to where I really don't know the couple that well anymore I give about $50 sometimes $100 if it's a fancy wedding where they spent a lot per guest.I think if only he's going he should only give about $50. But etiquette police will tell you to give the same even if you didn't go. So if you go together you'd give 100 then apart give 100.

It depends on how close they are with each other. I suggest maybe 50 to 75. Dont break the bank for people you hardly know.

There is no "going rate," because people should spend whatever they can afford and/or want to. In your case, I would either leave the cost decision up to your boyfriend (b/c he's going alone and it's his friends); or spend $50-75 based on your "typical" spending; or spend whatever the heck you want to.

You give whatever you can afford without going into debt for everyday expenses. In this case, just give $50 or so, or something cheap from their registry.
