"sweetheart, as a wedding gift I have entered into a non-binding contract of dubious legality to purchase for you, my darling wife, a giant ball of burning gas, situated several billion miles into the freezing desolation of outer space, which might in fact already be dead for all I know, as the light from it takes so long to reach us here on earth."Have you considered a puppy instead?

We had a star named after my dad for his 60th birthday and he was really touched by it. He proudly displays his star chart. I think it's a great idea. go for it.

I like the idea. My fiance got one for me for my birthday one year, and I loved it!!! But I would name the star after her, not both of you, so it is something only for her..... I would also think of something made by you, like a glass bead bracelet for example, is something she would cherish since you made it. Good luck!

I don't think naming a star is a good idea. You will never see it or touch it - you just get a chart showing where it is and no doubt a certificate of ownership. You may just as well throw your money out of the window and tell her that her present is out there somewhere.I would have thought a really nice watch or piece of jewellery with an inscription on the back would be far more acceptable.

There is no validity in "buying" a star. It's not really yours at all, and all you're doing is giving money away to some people to give you the same star sheet as everyone else who "buys" that star. I suggest some nice jewelry or something, maybe with your guy's names or something.

My fiance collects lighters. Not because he is a smoker, but because he just loves the fancy lighters. So as a gift to him I got him a really nice lighter (not the plastic ones, you know like a zippo) with his name engraved on the back and the Marine corps logo engraved on the front.I don't think that per say is the greatest gift for your fiance (since I doubt she's a ligher enthusiast), but what about doing a piece of jewelery with her name on it, or the date of your wedding? If you aren't engraving your wedding rings, you could consider having hers engraved as a gift to her.I think the star thing is very cute until you think about it technically and that its not that hard to name a star and then when you start thinking about what a star actually is its just a whole lot less romantic. I say do that, but maybe add something tangible to it. Add: Also, name the star after her so its a gift for HER

The star naming is nice, and thoughtful. But you need something to go with it. A piece of jewelry, with a star or other celestial theme. It does not have to be expensive, just so it will not turn her neck green. Back that up with giving her some homemade/handmade star coupons, with a job on each one of them. Things for her. A backrub, a nice dinner at her favorite restaurant. Washing her car, fixing her breakfast. Pick things she likes, and call them Her Star Wishes. Take the star thing a step farther, and put your wedding vows on them, or make a whole bunch, with anniversary numbers and wishes on them. LIke: fifth anniversary, we are still together, and are deeper in love than ever I wish that that 5 had a zero after it, that is how well I think I know you.
