I own a small cleaning service, and each year I give a gift to one client of ours in particular. I do this because she has dealt with me while I have learned how to build my business and have made mistakes, and this office manager has always been supportive of me and keep our services. I usually give her a $60 gift certificate to a restaurant and a box of chocolates (because she loooves chocolate). I have done this same thing for the last 4 years, and I was thinking about changing it up a little this year. I was thinking of giving a gold canyon candle (they are my favorite) and a gift card to Starbucks. My question is- would you stick with the usual restaurant/chocolate gift again this year, or would you change it up? Should I still spend $60 at Starbucks if I go that route... if not, how much? (I picked $60 for a restaurant because that way she could usually go in and have dinner with her significant other and a drink- and that would normally cover it.)Any other ideas? This office I clean is home to a large (world wide) company- and they deal with high people in high places... so it's not like it's just a hole in the wall business. This palce is extremely professional!

I think the restaurant gift certificate idea is still the best. Don't buy the candles - they are not everyone's idea of a good gift. But everyone likes to eat. By the way, I think it's a really nice thing that you're doing and if I were the client I would definitely appreciate it.

I would not give a candle unless you know the particular taste of the person you are buying for very well. I can say that I have been given tons of scented candles as gifts and really don't like any of them. I don't tend to use them and I know a lot of people (including me) who are sensitive to strong smells. If you know her well enough to do that, though, then go for it. Unless she really loves coffee, I would stick to a restaurant gift card, but maybe to a different restaurant. Starbucks is a possibility, but I know I'd rather get a card to treat myself to a night out instead of 10 cups of coffee! I hope this helps!

I would stick to getting a resturant gift certificate and the chocolates, since you said she loves chocolate.

Unless you know that she likes candles, stick with what she likes. I know that maybe *you* are bored with giving the same gift, but people come to appreciate things like that. She knows that you know she likes chocolate or the gift cards, so she'll look forward to getting chocolate or gift cards this Christmas from you.

I think you are doing well with the certificate and candy idea. If you want to change it at all, just change the certificate. Maybe to something more general, such as American Express or Visa money, or a dept. store, etc.May your business continue to be successful!
