I have been asked to go to a wedding after party... that is not the actual wedding but the party on the evening...is it necessary to give a gift or anything?

I think a nice card would do nicely. If you feel you must give a gift a little wedding 'keepsake' may be nice and wouldn't be too expensive.

I would give a nice card and something small like a nice picture frame.

Actually I don't think it is? I mean, you haven't been invited to the big do, and the evening do is usually for work colleagues and friends who aren't exactly close... I would send a card, and thats it

Me and my boyfriend have been asked to go the the reception party after the wedding and we usually just out £20 in the card if ur in usa think thats about $40.It isnt abseloutely neccessary but if there is a buffet being held at the party then it is nice to give a small token as they have gone to the expense of laying on food for their evening guests.

Are you going to the actual wedding? If you are, no, you don't need to bring one. You should have already given a wedding gift at the reception. If you aren't going to the wedding, then why would you go to the after party? That's sort of rude. It's like saying, "sorry, you didn't make the guest list; but, feel free to come to the after party when our reception is through"Either way, you don't need to give a gift for an after-party. That's more of a casual thing.
