Lots of homemade items can be used. You can make homemade cookies/brownies etc and put them on a decorative christmas plate (plastic/paper or the dollar store sells the glass for $1) wrap it in cellophane, You can get a jar from the $1 store and make homemade hot chocolate there are tons and tons of recipesfor this online. You can buy mini coffee bags or a gift card for a coffee store even if its just a free cup and get a mini thermosor mug and wrap it with the clear cellophane and a bow. You can buy christmas dvd's or christmas music and wrap them and find a cute saying online to go with it. Buy gift cards and put a cute saying with them, or even a bottle of wine or chamagne or something like that is always thoughtful. If its mostly younger kids egg nog and cookies or apple cider and cake.

If you're good at crafts, consider making your relatives gifts like wall hangings; table runners; toys; Christmas ornaments; or knitted hats, scarves, sweaters, and mittens.

The past 2 years my family has stopped exchanging gifts and give the amount we would have spent to our favorite charity or to a food shelf. We still bring small stocking stuffer items and play games for them.X-mas is about giving and the feeling of helping someone who really needs it and having fun with your family is more fulfilling than exchanging gifts.
