Or maybe even something that is a combination of things! What about take a no-big-deal plain little stocking (I'm sure you could find for cheap at Target, Craft Stores,etc.) and decorate it with glitter glue, sewing, whatever you like. Then you could put one or two real gifts in it(Cologne, gift cards) then some candy, then a little love note/card. I think that would be a great idea. This year I'm getting him an x-box 360 but I'm going to buy it used. For a less spendy gift you could get him a watch, a wallet, DVDs, or an iTunes gift card. I don't know, those are just some ideas.
