The Marine Corps has Toys for Tots... it's not 3rd world countries, but does exactly that in local communities.

Take care of your local kids first. Many third world countries don't celebrate Christmas because they are not Christians......................Toys for Tots is one of the best Christmas Charities around (in my opinion)

Google Shoe Box appeal. Varies charities run it, what you do is you fill a shoe box with toys, crayons, clothes etc....the charity ships it and some poor kid gets to open it at xmas.

Most charities would prefer money with which to buy the presents. 1) import duties in many countries are prohibitive and very costly to the charity or receiver of the items. 2) ability to purchase local items as gifts also helps local economy. So unless you plan to visit the country and carry the items yourself I would suggest you find a good charity to donate cash to.

someone else here mentioned operation christmas child. I live abroad now so don“t participate, but in the UK all he kids at school loved it, It was great to see how much stuff you can fit in a shoe box, you are not allowed to put in any toys relating to war as many kids are victims of war torn countries. The really appreciate gloves and hats, there is so much you can fit in. The humbling thing is that when these kids open their shoe boxes they often share everything in it with others. Please try to send something if you can.
