She's rich, I'm not. We have been invited to spend the weekend at their condo at the lake. The hostess has horrible sinus problems so flowers are out. They drink alcohol but I would prefer something unique other than a bottle of wine. She and her husband happen to be business associates of my husband so I need to be appropriate.

I would always recommend candles, a picture frame or two, or a bath set. Also, a tea assortment is a fun, tasteful and inexpensive choice. Something like this is similar enough to flowers that any woman will love them, but also impersonal enough that any woman will love them. Hope this helps, and enjoy your weekend! Also, bringing your favorite bite to eat or better yet something you made personally is always a plus, because it also allows you to showcase your taste (and baking skills if you make it yourself)! Also, it might take some of the pressure of of the hostess for that dish (or just provide a nice snack).

go to a craft store and buy a pretty basket and then fill it with things she can use at the lake...sun block, hand wipes, bottles to carry water, whatever.

We have found that this year's hottest gift for moms, dads, graduates and rich executives (like the ones you are visiting) is a leather passport cover. There are supposed to be 18 million passports issued this year and so the leather passport holder is a perfect gift for someone, especially if you have it monogrammed. Oprah's O magazine listed it as a top 10 gift of the year in her April 2007 edition. Plus, the prices range from $15.00-29.00, depending on style and quality of leather. We have some on our website and you can buy them elsewhere too. Good luck. -Adam from clcleather.com

Well i can understand it, I now am well to do and my friends and family bring something small, not expensive but just a great jesture, you could pick a rich dessert, like red velvet cake, or fruit and custard pie/cake.Even fruit basket (small/med). I would go with the dessert, no personal items, at least I wouldn't though, i prefer the small stuff.

Some of the ideas on here have been good, I'd find a nice basket, or a really nice fabric covered storage bin, the Loews has different colors, and getting her something she can re-use would be good, if you got a neutral colored Fabric storage bin, you could always go to the dollar store or a craft store and get some silk flowers and safety pin using small safety pins and attach them to the outside of the bin, if the craft store has fabric, check their remnant bin and see if they have some small pieces of silk or something nice and colorful and you could get a couple of nice coffee mugs and a bag of coffee that you can even get at your local grocery store. Then just pack it with some small things you know they'd like, you know their personalities. If she likes Dragonflies, you could do a quick internet search on Ebay or something and find a small keychain for less than $10, those storage bins are less than $10 and so is coffee and mugs. Guys of all ages like Tools, Grill things and Stuff for their Cars. You could get some inexpensive any of those. A nice card in there and like someone else said, a couple of candles (you could also pick up some nice ones at the dollar store too, no one would know)check out this link to get some ideas, some of these are expensive, but it might help you get started how to arrange your gift. Just remember you don't need alot of money to give a gift that just shows you care about your friends.http://www.giftbaskets.com/giftbaskets/default-logo.asp?mscssid=93PU2NT0NHQ39MLF9AXHWXDK1UXJ1MLDHope it works out, sounds like you're on the right track. And you can keep it business appropriate too. Hey if you have a nice pic of them alot of those photo sites like Snapfish and Shutterfly, you can make photo gifts, like mugs and mouspads, usually for less than $15

A small basket from Harry and David would be nice. They have nice baskets or fruits, nuts, cookies or all sizes and price ranges. Or something for you all to enjoy on Sunday morning, Champagne! Yum!

some kind of special alcohol- something festive or that you particularly like and therefore thought they might appreciate (soemthing with a story or connection)...or 'lake reading,' a nice vase, some kind of food....things that can be shared and enjoyed without you feeling threatened by financial differences.the thought will count more than the actual gift, so make sure you come up with SOMETHING! if you've been there before, bring something you think would look nice. another thing is something fun for the lakefront or fun kitchen or bar gadgets.
