My niece is graduating and I've been racking my brain trying to think of the perfect gift too. She's 18. Pretty. Smart. The family is not too well off, so something special sounds like the way to go. Cash is great but how about gear he'll need.

Give him a visa gift card. That shows you spent time getting his present instead of just giving him plain ol cash. If you have a SunTrust near you, they offer them. Most banks do as well but SunTrust has a large selection. If you have time to look online, you can customize his visa gift card on SunTrust website. Even has his name imprinted on it.

I believe most graduates would love to receive that as a gift. And as an added bonus it will save you the worry of if they like it or not cause who wouldn't like money. |

I work for the Marine Corps. Cash is fine but while he's in basic training he will be saving the money that he earns until he goes to his MOS school. You can also give him a Build-A-Bear with military clothes.

I think that cash is an excellent idea. That way he can put it towards something that he really wants.... not just something he'll stick in a closet and forget about.

I think that $51 or $101 is appropriate. He can buy whatever he wants.

Since he can't take anything with him to basic training, money would be good, or a charge card that you load with an amount. A calling card would be nice, too.Money would be most convenient. He could stick it in an account for later, spend it now, or just keep it for later.
