How about a not close family relative get married. Should I get gift instead giving cash ? I would think more a casual friend then anything else.

A gift card to any store that would help them furnish their home...Don't go over board and buy gifts you cannot afford...Most brides are appreciative of being remembered and it is the thought of giving that is most important.

Remember, most wedding couples will spend $50-$100 on just dinner and another $15-30 on booze per person(even if you dont drink they pay for it). I would say a bare minimum gift of $75-$100 per person cash in a card is reasonable, and that will just cover their expenses for you attending. Anything else would be extra....

Go ahead or give the cash or the gift card. Some people will knock you and say "oh its so impersonal" but as a bride I will say that at least a few of the cash/gift cards are definately appreciated to fill in any gaps that might have been forgotten giftwise. Eg. she got tons of sheets but no pillowcases. I would especially go this route since she is a "casual friend" and you might not be too familiar with her tastes. As far as the "cover your plate" rule. Its a good rule of thumb but you should always stick with what you can comfortable afford. If you cant afford a 175 gift dont give one.

If it's just you, give $100...a classy, appreciated gift that doesn't say too much.

I AM DOING THIS, BECAUSE I KNOW HOW MUCH I SPENT WHEN I HAD TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE THE 1ST TIME AFTER I GOT MARRIED. GET A LAUNDRY BASKET AND FILL IT WITH CLEANING SUPPLIES.

I think gift's are better cause the person never knows how much you spend and I personally like gifts better myself from people cause then it means more..cause you put more thought into whatever you got.

As a bride to be, a gift I would love just as much as money, a gift card, or something off my registry would be tickets to the ballet, or a concert, and a restaurant. That way you are supporting time alone for the couple. A special night out...dinner and a play or something. It's personal and absolutely unique and beautiful!Another option is looking into a getaway area near the couples home town and giving them a gift certificate to that location. I'd love that too!
